We're Down So Many Yen
Tune: Claude François's and Jacques Revaux's "My Way"
We're down
So many yen,
It's time to file
For Chapter 7;
We scored
A perfect 10—
The trouble is,
We owe 11.
We've failed
A thousand ways,
But you, of course,
Devised one more way—
And all
It took was this:
We did it your way.
Your bids
Were something new:
Designs of pure
Improvisation;
And then
We'd muddle through
The board's review
Without elation.
And so
It's no surprise
Our sorry butts
Were shown the doorway;
And why? Don't ask me why:
We did it your way.
Still, there were times
We won the bid;
Then we were both
Sorry that we did.
The job was done,
Or just about—
You'd screw it up;
They'd chuck us out.
You did that mall,
And had the gall
To do it your way.
We wrote
A zillion checks,
Until the job
Was over budget.
We blew
So many specs
That, in the end,
We had to fudge it.
We stood
A better chance
Of selling ice
To folks in Norway;
But no! good heavens, no!
We did it your way.
So what is your plan?
And where's the plot?
Have you one scheme
That isn't rot?
I'm sick to death
Of shaky deals,
Of empty tills
And cheesy spiels;
From here on in,
To save our skin,
We do it my way.
